( Christiaan Eijkman was a Dutch physician and professor of physiology whose demonstration that beriberi is caused by poor diet led to the discovery of antineuritic vitamins. They are remembered for spreading awareness about Berry-Berry disease. While working as an army surgeon on the island of Java, he showed signs of this disease. He told the world that berry-berry disease is caused by bad food and drink. )
