● The Indian Air Force is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces. Its complement of personnel and aircraft assets ranks fourth amongst the air forces of the world. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during armed conflict.

★ वायु सेना को 1945 में दूसरे विश्वयुद्ध (2nd world war) के दौरान अच्छे प्रदर्शन के लिए 'Royal' शब्द की उपाधि मिली और इसे "ROYAL INDIAN AIR FORCE" कहा जाने लगा। हालांकि 1950 में भारत के गणतंत्र बनने के बाद रॉयल शब्द को हटा दिया गया और वायु सेना को "INDIAN AIR FORCE" कहा जाने लगा।
